The Beach!

After meeting up with the Fields at a memorial for Katie we headed for the beach. We had never been to Newport and it was a beautiful beach with beautiful homes all around.

The boys just love trying to beat the waves. They did end up very wet. I guess they aren't always as fast as they think.

We think the lady in the bikini of our family picture just adds to the surroundings. I wish I had photo shop.

A trip to the dollar store was well worth the time to get sand toys and play airplanes.

Our white legs were almost brighter than the sun. Considering we hadn't seen the sun in months we all were soaking it in.

The beach had the coolest rocks and caves and was a great way to spend a day in California.

California, Here We Come!

We just love when Wendell has a work convention and we love it even more when the convention happens to be in Anaheim. On May 1st we headed out to begin our week long adventure while Wendell had to go to meetings.

Tyler and Megan could hardly wait to land. They were excited also by the fact that cousin Spencer, James, and Faith just happened to be in California on the same weekend.

State Tumbling Champ!

On April 30th, the state tumbling competition was held in Heber. We made the trip in the freezing cold to watch Megan. She had been nervous all day. I think she was shaking from nerves and not from the snow. Her first pass was super fast and she didn't fully complete the last pike. Her second pass was the best she has ever done, but we were very nervous waiting for the results. I'm glad I'm not a judge because I'm not sure what they look for. When all was said and one Megan ended up getting 2nd place. She was thrilled and we were pleasantly surprised. She worked hard all season and it definitely paid off. Now on to Nationals. Congratuations Megan! State Champion!

Tumbling Passes

And these are the winning passes! It's amazing that the sum total of Megan's runs do not even total 1 minute. It's definitely a sport for those in a hurry.

Weber Saturday

The end of April just happened to be graduation at Weber and Science Saturday. Tyler brought along a friend and we visited the bowling alley for lunch and a game sponsored by the MBA program. I think the party was actually just for those that graduated from the program, but I'm sure we'll pay them enough over the next 2 years to make up for a couple of slices of pizza and one game of bowling.

Emily was into the food more than the bowling.

After bowling, we headed to the science building to enjoy the activities. Emily's favorite was trying to see how many pennies she could fit in a foil boat before it sank.

Tyler got a little competitive and tried to get the most pennies. He did get about 100 which is all we had the patience to count.

We then headed into the theater to watch a free movie on the dome. The movie was made by students and was the perfect length---only about 10 minutes.

A few classrooms were then set up to try different experiments. We really liked the shaving cream and food coloring mess.

Emily's favorite was the giant bubble maker. It turned out to be a great Saturday and the best part was it was all free. I love those kind of days.

Springtime---Some Days Anyway!

Emily and her friend Sarah have a favorite pastime in the spring---collecting worms and rolie polies. They can spend hours digging and looking for the biggest worm. I think it is kind of gross, but it entertains them.
Tyler also spends hours in the dirt, but he prefers the sand pile with Jordan. They have built tunnels and castles and flooded the area so much there is very little sand left. It is definitely well worth its weight in gold in the amount of entertaining it has provided for the boys in the neighborhood. I don't think we'll ever find all the army guys and tanks buried in it.

Field Trip!

April and May seemed to have passed by too quickly. The end of the school year brings lots of activities and with that field trips. Emily's class got to go to the Treehouse museum. They participated in plays and learned all about fairy tales.
Emily was chosen to be the ugly old witch. That is her in the mask.

A Prince was supposed to kiss her and turn her into a princess. The knight (prince) next to her wouldn't even come as close as touching her hand. Luckily there is a lot of magic at the treehouse and Emily reappeared as a beautiful princess without the prince's help.
They worked on crafts and played and played. It was fun to spend the day with Emily and enjoy the Kindergarteners.
