State Tumbling Competition!

While Natalie and Jeri were in town, Megan got to perform for them in Heber. She always loves an audience. Here is just some of her cheering section. The boys were lucky enough to be back at the condo swimming. After waiting 2 1/2 hours for Megan to tumble, I think we all wished we were swimming. We thought we would be done and back to Park City by about 8:30 at night. Megan's group didn't even get to tumble until about 9:45 and then with awards it made for a long night.




Megan and her group didn't seem to notice the delay too much. They spent a lot of time playing tag and having handstand contests on the mats.

There are a lot of girls and boys that tumble in this state.












The wait to watch Megan was worth it. She did really well and ended up with 4th place in her group. It's always hard to compete with older girls and Megan did a great job! She was mostly there for the trophy. Tyler and Spencer promptly told her it was just plastic (I think they were a little jealous).

This is the first time Megan has been able to land a double full in competition. It makes us a little dizzy to watch.

Spring Break in Utah!

California and Nevada had Spring Break the week after Easter. That meant that we had visitors to Utah, but also that Megan, Tyler, and Emily were in school. Even with the homework and classes we still managed to have fun with the Fields and Donnellys. The highlight for the girls and James was the trip to Salt Lake to see the hallowed halls of East High---or in other words the set of High School Musical. School was not in session in Salt Lake either so we were able to roam without anyone even caring that we were there. The locker of Sharpay was Emily's favorite part.

We also had a fun visit to Farr's for ice cream.

Fat Cats is always a draw for the kids. It's amazing how quickly quarters can be eaten up on games and then even more amazing that the kids are thrilled with the prizes. Megan chose boogers in a can, which was as bad as it sounds.

The boys enjoying their ice cream. Maybe next year our breaks will be at the same time and it won't snow or rain the entire time.

Easter Sunday!

Megan, Tyler, and Emily dressed in their Sunday best. Emily picked the biggest, "foofiest" dress she could find. I thought she looked very cute. Megan thought it was a little much and couldn't believe anyone would wear that much "foof." I had to remind Megan that she loved the foofy when she was 5.

Emily and Megan insisted on getting "high heels" this year. They both got wedge sandals that are higher than most of my shoes. Emily did really well walking in them and just "loves them." It's nice that Tyler doesn't care. I bought his shirt and tie and he just put them on that morning without a second thought.


After church we had an Easter egg hunt in our backyard. Mammy spread eggs all over the yard for the kids and adults. Tyler told me that "Mammy brings way better things than even the Easter Bunny." I guess we need a new bunny.

We then had the traditional ham dinner and ended the day with dessert with Wendell's mom and dad.

Happy Easter!

I'm a little slow getting all of April on our blog. We got home from California just in time to dye eggs for the next morning. We had all colors and managed to only crack one. Megan, Tyler and Emily took the whole egg thing very serious. The sad thing is no one even likes the eggs and they are truly just for hiding. I wish someone would invent fake eggs that can be colored each year and then washed.










Easter morning came really early since we have 9:00 church. We literally had to drag Megan and Emily out of bed to see their baskets. They quickly looked for eggs and then had to rush off to get dressed.

Aquarium of the Pacific

Fridays nights are free at the aquarium near Natalie's house. The shark petting ponds and stingrays are open for anyone brave enough to pet. Megan got right into the petting of the sharks. Tyler tried a couple of times and then was content to watch. Emily took forever to decide to pet anything. I guess a slimy shark is not the most pleasant or desirable thing to touch. We did have a great time looking at the ponds that were open. We then finished the evening with dinner near the aquarium and pier.

We are so sad that the Fields are moving. We have had a great time visiting Long Beach these last 5 years.

Hooray for Hollywood!

Yes, Hollywood is a scary town. Probably the best part of the whole experience is the Disney Soda Fountain. It is an old-fashioned counter with really yummy ice cream. This time we decided to go for what is called "Mickey's Masterpiece." It was tons of ice cream and toppings around a giant Mickey hat. The waitress told us we would get a prize if we ate the entire thing. Well, the kids pulled out straws and everything to try to get the last of the ice cream. And yes, the prize was a button that said "I ate the whole thing." Not really what the kids or adults for that matter were expecting. We did wear the buttons the rest of the day though.

The kids were fascinated by all the weird people walking the streets of Hollywood. They really liked the Homer Simpson dude in his underwear trying to get pictures with people---Only in California.



We did spend time looking at strange gift shops and then trying to find a wig shop. I'm not sure why that was a draw. Emily did tell me while we were walking that she wanted a wig because her "hair just looks horrible." I had to laugh when I thought of Emily actually wearing a wig to preschool. Luckily, the wigs were quite expensive and we found cheap t-shirts instead.

Griffith's Park

After a tiring 3 days in Disneyland we decided to spend the last day in California near Hollywood.

We first went to the Observatory that overlooks all of Los Angeles and Hollywood. Huge telescopes and weather equipment are there as well as space exhibits. We all had a great time looking around the museum and then trying to look through the smog and clouds at L.A.
